A new Mac convert

Since I have had Iphone, I have been amazed by the quality of this revolutionary device. I started thinking to develop some app on the Iphone. It meant that I needed to switch from Windows to Mac, needed to learn Mac and needed to learn XCode, Objective - C. Finally, this last week I took a step forward and bought a 1.5 GB and 160 GB HDD Macbook.

Its not that I was totally new to Mac as I had used my buddy's about a year ago few mins but still I was totally lost using the shortcuts was so used on Windows. It took me a little while before I could figure it out "Witch" which made my life much simpler. I am now enjoying my Mac and my sony vaio has not been booted since 2 weeks now.

Now its time to learn Iphone development. I am going to download XCode and all that is required to it. I expect learning Objective-C wont be much difficult as I now have about six years of development. I am also following Jeff L, who writes an Iphone blog and I think its wonderful.
So in nutshell I feel pretty excited about it and I will keep blogging about my new interest.

Surely! You are joking Mr Feynman.

Although I am still in between reading the "The Selfish Gene", as I told you some time back in my blog below, my manager Ron, again convinced me to buy two more books on America's most influential, Nobel Prize winning physicist, Richard Feynman(pronounced as FINE-MAN).
He is known for his wit, humor and countless hilarious stories. Go to this link and study more about him, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Feynman. Here is the account of some of the books on him.

In the book, "Surely! You are joking Mr Feynman: Adventures of a curious character", is considered to be one of the best books. This book is a compilation of his lectures, his day-to-day life experiences, his passion for topless bar girls etc., and the author says, it will make you die out of laugh.

In another book "What Do You Care What Other People Think?: Further Adventures of a Curious Character", is a sequel to the above one. This book also highlights his wit and intellect and his humorous stories.

There is another book called "Six easy pieces : essentials of physics, explained by its most brilliant teacher" by Richard Feynman. My manager says, that after reading this book one surely gets provoked to become a Physicist and will surely help opens up one's mind and views and what not! If you are an engineer, you gotta read this book!

As soon as my manager described about these books, I made sure that I was the first one to leave the office and went straight to library to grab all these books, and I did get two of them. So looking forward to finish all the above books and in the process, increase my intellect and knowledge.:-).

Till next time,
Jaggi.

"The selfish Gene" : Richard Dawkins

I am currently reading a book called 'The Selfish Gene' by "Richard Dawkins". It was recommended to me by my Manager here, Ron Haworth. He is kind of an atheist.

The book explains the Darwin's theory of evolution at the "gene level" and my manager bets, that by the end of the book, my complete perception and outlook will change, on how I look things and generally how I perceive life as a whole. This book describes about the "selfish" nature of man and says that we survived evolution because we were selfish.

I will not go into the details of the book as I think I have already given you hints, what kind of book this is. This book created controversies and critics which lambasted Richard Dawkins on his theory. An interesting read!!!!

I finished the first chapter y'day and could already see, what my manager is describing.
I suggest, grab a copy and start reading and see how much it affects your life.

Till next time,
Jaggi.

Guys don't forget me..I still write....

Hello,
I am writing after an year. This didnot mean that I din't write any blog, I did but in in another site. Today I felt, ok let me fill this a little bit more.

Just to tell you a history a bit. I did a good project in .NET which involved the creation of the COM objects through the .NET. It had everything from the pseudo compiler to the crreation of dynamic C# projects. You may be aware that a class called ServicedComponent allows to do that. And it was fun handling the native COM dlls into the C# project. How it created RCW's etc was fun to learn. I am not going into the details here but just to give you hint what I learned so that if you are interested you also can look.

Then all the settings on the COM object which we used to do such as security level, user level, server object or not etc etc are all done through the attributes in .NET. In this project we used VSIP with our custom editor. The user would input the commands in a language called LINC, and once he hits build- the product would output the LINC commands in the equivalent C# files, create a project out of it and install it as a COM object. We had a .NET client exe application which would then talk to this COM object.

Now I am in US for the past 6 months and doing another .NET object which is in C# has Devexpress grids, Nothwoods third party controls etc. It talks to the back-end which is a JBOSS application server in Java where it hosts a java files. The front end which we are developing in C# talks to this application server through the sockets and since this application is hosted on a particular host, we retrieve and send data through these socket connections.

That's it in a nutshell. On the extra-curricular activities, I just bought a $100 guitar and have started taking lessons in Guitar. It keeps be busy on weekends. Also I am doing skiing these days really hard and its a kind of a fun. I am reading a book called "A boy in a girl's bathroom".

Chalo bye bye till my next experiences and posts.
